It's strange to reconcile brostep, metal-fused breaks and everything else in dieselboy's modern repertoire with straight artful, selector-driven, dub and underground laced manifestos like these. WTS was a flexout from him as a leader and DJ's dj back then. It's fierce, emotional and takes you up , down and back with a purpose, while showing superb mixing and professional selecting styles. Essential and a great artifact of the work he put in to become great. Bukem's closer is a perfect endcap to this story.

Dieselboy was unique in alot of ways, not just that he was one of the first US selectors to become famous and also be a fantastic DJ and collaborate with Suburban Base, but his capabilities as a selector and excellent mixmaster shined greatly. If you look at the tracklists for his early tapes, you'll find alot of records that weren't virtual chart toppers, and not from all the most typically rated producers. Any popular tape or CD that came out during the period was full of rinsed out anthems, and Dieselboy was playing all the rest too, rare/scarce plates, some lesser known artists and tunes that were brand new. I still look at them at don't know half the records i'm looking at. But he had a way of compiling and mixing records that created evolving narratives and stories that built and peaked and came down, rinse repeat. He's an Auteur. I learned to mix solely from listening to this tape and Supreme 95. I also learned from watching him how to mix records using only Pitch Control. In other words he's the consummate professional and a seminal figure in US and UK Jungle/Drum&Bass history. Right up there with Randall, Swift, Bukem, anyone. I personally rate him higher than all of them. Viva The Dieselboy. Now, if only people would start selling these 90 minute masterpieces. Rare as Hen's Teeth.

i bought this tape in the summer of 1995. it was my first dnb mixtape id ever purchased (i was into house and techno). i played this on repeat for what seemed like months, and then quickly picked up Supreme, when it was released. living in philly, i got to see him play often (and hanging around the record store 611). sadly i lent both tapes to a friend of mine in 98 and never saw them again. many years later, i luckily stumbled onto a website that had them as mp3's. to this day - WTS and Supreme are STILL my favorite dnb mixes - 21 years later. fantastic selections, solid mixing (there is a one noticeable fuckup), and just overall great mix from beginning to end. way ahead of its time for US "jungle" djs

I second this entirely. I've had a radio show for years, and in 2001 I met him to do an interview, then saw him play at a club in Maine. He was the first person to highlight (to me, at age 15) the technique of using ONLY the pitch slider; never touching the record or platter to bring things back to alignment. I still listen to his mixtapes to this day for inspiration. Also had the joy of listening to this particular tape on repeat for about 13 hours during one of my first LSD adventures... it is thus indelibly burned into my brain. I also spent a couple of years tracking down and buying up vinyl copies of all the tracks on this mix. Couldn't resist.
